"1776" associates our deep respect for what our Patriots did in the American Revolution -- facing up to tyranny, declaring our independence and gaining our freedom -- with the task before us today of bringing back into the balance of powers a nearly unfettered Executive Branch aided and abetted by many Hill Republicans. Fortunately the battle is waged with ballots, not bullets, thanks to the magnificent achievement of our Founding Fathers.

"1776" restores the positive inspiration of true patriotism in the hearts of Americans after six years of degradation by Mr. Bush and his allies, as in the ill-named Patriot Act and the charge that dissenters are "unpatriotic."

"It's 1776 all over again" is a takeoff on Yogi Berra's famed remark, "It's deja vu all over again." We've been here before and now we're facing similar challenges all over again.

The victory of our Patriots and Founding Fathers over imperial oppression and unsound governance is a pride shared by most members of all major parties -- Democrats along with Greens, Independents and moderate Republicans -- we all need the same unity of purpose that inspired our forefathers.

"1776 All Over Again" remind us that, as a people watching the emerging danger to our freedoms, rights and civilized sensibilities today, we know we have been here before, we won this battle before, and together we can win it again.
